How to Visit During the Covid-19 Pandemic

There are some we are unable to visit in person, but we can still call and have a conversation. Calling will have similar benefits for the person as visiting. While talking to the person, remind them that you are looking forward to seeing them again once it is possible. When you are calling, be sure to follow the CCC "being with" guide for enriched conversations.

However, if you can visit, ensure that you bring and wear your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). May include but is not exclusive to:

·      Hand Sanitizer (highly recommended)

·      Face mask (mandatory)

·      Fully Vaccinated

Before the visit

When preparing to visit with someone, make sure to do a self-assessment for any signs or symptoms of the disease. There are self-assessments online that only take a few minutes; search "Canada COVID-19 self-check" it should be the first link (https://ca.thrive.health/covid19/en). If you have any of the symptoms, do not visit; make sure to call the person you were planning on visiting and inform them of your situation and that you will reschedule once the symptoms have subsided.

During the visit

When you arrive at the person's residence, make sure to put on your face mask before entering the building. Then once inside, ask if you can wash your hands; avoid touching anything in the facility before this step. When washing your hands, make sure to take twenty seconds or sing "happy birthday" to yourself twice. Also, make sure to use soap, clean between each finger, under the fingernails, and around wrists. Once the hand washing is complete, and your hands are thoroughly dry, put on your medical gloves if you choose to do so. If you are unable to wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, put a dime-size amount in your palm, and massaging over your hands and wrist until completely dry, then proceed to put on your medical gloves if you choose to do so.

Ask where they would like you to sit during the visit, remember during your visit to keep your distance. It is recommended to stay six feet or two meters away at all times to prevent the spread of COVID-19 best.

After the visit

Once you have left the building, you can remove all PPE, starting with your gloves and disposing of them. Before removing your mask, wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer.

* remember that if you do not feel comfortable visiting during this time, then it is best to stay home.
